PACHAMAMA TOILET - Rimac Valley, Lima, Peru
Pachamama Toilet is a prototype design for an earth and fabric desiccating toilet for the shanty towns in Lima. Based on research into the cultural beliefs and excreta practice of the Quechua Indians, the structure is filled with locally available earth and can be constructed in one day. This waterless toilet removes excreta from the ground, and thus local water sources, by elevating the point of excretion and providing collectors above ground.

Awarded the Henry Saxon Snell Prize at the Architectural Association in 2003.
