"STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN" MEMORIAL - Bethnal Green Underground Station
The proposed memorial commemorates the worst civilian disaster of World War II. Working with survivors and relatives of those killed in the tragedy, the "Stairway to Heaven Memorial Trust" has been set up as a charity in order to raise funds and realise the project. The inverted bronze staircase forms a canopy to the station entrance. The project has won the support of the local community, press and politicians. In March 2007 the proposal was granted full planning permission by London Borough of Tower Hamlets council. For more information visit www.stairwaytoheavenmemorial.org
